Mount Pleasant rules to know

  • The state permit comes first. The Town's own FAQ says dock permits come from the state coastal office. That's SCDES now (formerly DHEC-OCRM). The FAQ still uses the old name.
  • Old Village and the historic district. If you're in the historic district, you also need approval from the Town's Historic District Preservation Commission.
  • The critical line buffer. Town zoning wants any path to a dock through the buffer raised off the ground and kept to the minimum needed.
  • Power, water or a roof? Ask the Town about building or electrical permits if your dock will have power or a roof.
  • Your HOA. Many Mount Pleasant neighborhoods review dock plans. Check before anybody draws anything.

What we do in Mount Pleasant

New docks, repairs and rebuilds, floating docks, boat lifts, and bulkheads along the marsh. Not every job starts from scratch. One 2026 state notice on Hobcaw Creek was to tear out an old dock and build a new walkway and pierhead while keeping the boat lift that was already there. Another, on Darrell Creek in Park West, was for a bulkhead.

Storms and Shem Creek

Hurricane Idalia in 2023 put two to three feet of water in the Shem Creek area. If a storm's worked your dock over, get photos before anything gets moved, then call. Dock Repair →
