Dock Builders on Isle of Palms, SC

On Isle of Palms, the docks are on the back side of the island, along Hamlin Creek, Morgan Creek and the Intracoastal Waterway. As dock builders on Isle of Palms, SC, we build and repair docks, floats, lifts and marsh-side bulkheads there, from Palm Blvd lots on Hamlin Creek to Waterway Blvd and Wild Dunes.

Isle of Palms rules to know

  • City permit. You need a building or zoning permit before work starts. IOP Building: 843-886-9912.
  • Pile driving hours. Pile drivers can run 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on weekdays and 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays. No construction work on Sundays or certain holidays.
  • No new oceanfront seawalls. State law doesn't allow new seawalls on the ocean beach. We only build on the marsh and creek side.

Wild Dunes

In Wild Dunes, a dock or bulkhead needs the Architectural Review Committee's OK first, and they want a copy of the state permit with it. The ARC's review is about looks: docks stay natural in color (no paint), roof pitch can't go past 4:12, and boat lifts get looked at case by case. The City's permit checklist also calls for a Wild Dunes permit where it applies.

Storms

Hurricane Hugo pushed a 15-foot storm tide onto Isle of Palms in 1989. If your dock has storm damage, take photos first, then call. Dock Repair →
